Your PagerDuty interviews will take place virtually via Zoom video conferencing. We’ll send you the details in advance, so you can ensure you have all of the necessary systems set up. Virtual interviewing offers a more flexible hiring process and opens up opportunities for more and diverse candidates to apply!
We follow a structured, competency-based interview model. Be ready to share how your skills and experience qualify you for the role, why you're interested in PagerDuty, and how you share our values.
We respect your time and interest in PagerDuty. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule and make the process as enjoyable and efficient as possible.
In general, you can expect the following steps in our recruitment process:
After applying, you’ll receive an email from PagerDuty confirming your submission. The recruiting team will then review your application and reach out to you with a next step decision. Whether you are moving forward in the process or not, you can expect a communication about your candidate status at every stage.
The recruiter will use this call to learn more about you and how your skills and experiences qualify you for the role. At the same time, this is an opportunity for you to learn more about the role and PagerDuty. Come with questions!
You can expect to block around 30 minutes for this call.
Depending on the role you are applying for, you may be asked to complete an assessment to evaluate your skills. These assessments may be coding challenges, simulations, writing samples, or other methods of determining specific skill competencies. Your recruiter will inform you of any potential assessments during your recruiter screen.
You can expect to spend around 1 hour on this step, if applicable.
In most cases, the hiring manager interview will be conducted by the person you’ll report to if successful. The hiring manager will use this call to gauge your overall hireability and fit with the role criteria. They know the most about the job, and are therefore the most equipped to answer your role-specific questions. Make sure to come prepared with all of your questions!
You can expect to block around 45 minutes for this call.
At this stage, you'll have an opportunity to speak with members of the team or cross-functional partners. This set of interviews will most likely consist of both behavioral and technical questions. We use behavioral interviewing as a way to learn about how you've handled past work experiences to get an idea of your way of thinking and working within a team environment. We believe this format provides an objective way to evaluate your candidacy against required competencies for the role, and predict future success at PagerDuty.
For the behavioral interview questions, we recommend preparing a few stories to share using STAR format (i.e. Situation, Task/Action, Result) to frame previous experiences.
The team will also be assessing how well you share our company values.
You can expect to block around 45 minutes each for two or three 1:1 interviews. Note, these interviews may occur over separate days. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule and respect your time. Please communicate openly with your coordinator to ensure seamless scheduling!
Congratulations! We’d be thrilled to have you on our team. Accepting a new job is a huge decision. Please feel free to ask your recruiter any remaining questions. You may also ask to speak with the hiring manager, a team member, or even a member of one of our ERGs (i.e. Employee Resource Groups) to help answer your questions! We hope you’re excited to start your next chapter as a Dutonian!
PagerDuty is committed to inclusive hiring. From talent attraction to onboarding, we are intentional about creating fair and candidate-centric processes.
As a candidate, you can expect the same level of care as we give to our customers and employees. Feel free to communicate with your recruiter any questions or concerns that come up throughout your interview process, whether it’s about scheduling, timeline, expectations, or something else - we’re happy to help.
